Laurie Newkirk is an award winning comedy writer and an accomplished writer/producer for the Emmy winning TV show Teen Kids News’ award winning website. Laurie got involved in the theater and soon discovered her talent for comedy. She quickly moved from actress to director and attended Yale University’s Director Certificate Program. She went on to direct several plays in CT and NYC and tied the Town Players of New Canaan’s 60 year box-office record. She went on to produce and direct the Havemeyer One-act Playwright Competition for three years and after having read all of the 1,000+ play submissions, she emerged a comedy writer. Her comedy one-acts were successfully received and produced in both CT and NYC, including her one-act ‘A Great Pair of Shoes’ which won a performance at the Symphony Space on Broadway. Writing had always been part of her marketing career and she quickly incorporated her flair for the comedic into commercials for the NHL and NASCAR and a still in use video for The American Heart Association – Pump it Up!
